Why are there so few African-American baseball players?



The Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world turn. Today we’re looking at America’s favorite pastime: baseball. It’s been 71 years since Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, but African-American participation in the MLB has sharply declined since its peak in the early ’80s. However, this year we’re seeing more African-American players take to the field, due in part to programs that encourage urban youth to join the game.
